Creatively Tangled

Monster Bites has shown us the power of the handmade, independent community. This blog has rallied people together; people who visit our little niche of the Interwebs daily and comment and share pieces of themselves while supporting artists who not only craft-by-hand but simultaneously do good in the world. Whether through repurposing materials, donating to worthy causes, or producing in sustainable capacities, these designers inspire us with their creativity and thoughtful, worldly outlook.

Today’s artist not only donates a portion of her sales to a good cause, but started an amazing community herself through Etsy. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Laura joined forces with other dedicated, supportive Etsy sellers and formed Etsy Project Embrace, which is now over 250 Etsy shops strong. Laura’s shop, Creatively Tangled, sells delicate and personal hand stamped charm necklaces from which a portion of sales supports individuals battling cancer.

ENVIABLE PERK: 10% of all sales are donated to either The American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen, or Camp Bravehearts.

Talk about living enviably and being tangled together in a community of good!

GIVEAWAY ALERT: Creatively Tangled is giving away the Hand Cut and Stamped Initial Heart Necklace featured above. To enter, comment on this post and tell us how you would describe community. Ash & Kimmy agree that community is an interconnected web of people both present and afar who not only support one another, but are dependable and predictable in this support. *CoughThatIncludesYouCough*

A community is a group of people united by a commonality and a vision to protect that communality.

A community is a group of people that share the pain and celebrate the joy

I love these necklace/scarves. My family is always skeptical about my constant re-purposing of things that appear to be worn out, but they usually love the outcome and why use new resources when there are recyclables out there. I love to see what other people are creating because the ideas seem to be endless. The etsy community is creatively intertwined, with the ideas of others constantly evolving and sparking new ideas.

A community is a group of people working towards a common goal in a collaborative manner. They can achieve so much more than each person working independently.

  • Anna L

A community is any interconnected group!

Being tangled in a community of good: well, I think it has to do with how each person’s life touches so many others, and often one’s life may touch other lives without one even knowing it. So by doing a “good” thing, one may touch many lives!

Lovely giveaway I would be honored to win.

  • a community is a group of people who have a common goal and vision, and who are willing to learn to adapt to each others’ needs in the pursuit of that goal. it gets messy sometimes, but it’s worth the effort!

A community is a group of people who pull together to improve their situation. A community can be a neighborhood, a district, a city, or an entire culture.

  • I’d define community as beings (people, animals, what have you) who share a unique tie of some sort and thus support each other and come together in times of need or celebration.

  • Jill

community means people supporting one another and simply sharing life together – the good and the bad, the exciting and the mundane. :)

  • (great topic by the way!)my community are the people around me that love and support me (this goes both ways) both in person and on the web. These are people I know there the mental health community, my children, travel, and life. They for the most part are people I know I can trust to stick by me when times get tough. My community also includes the stores, coffee shops ect that know myself and my family :) Oh and can not forget my all important dog park. How is that for a long winded answer LOL, they are important to me though!

  • angie

A community is a group of people with similar values (although there is often a large degree of diversity within a community) and goals. There is reciprocity and in theory, each member looks out for the good of the group as a whole.

  • Meg

I’d venture to say that a community is a group of people who are connected through not only a common goal, but a common path to achieve that goal, often working together and offering mutual support without individual personal gain as the fore thought.

Community : A sense of cooperation, connectivity and unity .

Community is where people are not just folks living near each other, but actually caring about each other, wanting to help the next person without being asked and calling them a friend and not only a neighbor.

  • Cindi

I believe that people can not exist without community! People need
each other in one capacity or another. Communities consist of people
near and far who can depend upon one another for friendship, help
in times of need and for a feeling of self-worth…
    Many thanks, Cindi

  • Community is a place where we feel welcome, cherished, loved and cared for. It may be a family, a neighborhood, a social or religious circle, a town, a nation; or, as Suzula says, it may be a global association of people of good will and generosity – like EPE!:)

  • ms(dot)verymarried(at)gmail(dot)com

When I think community, I think of the show Cheers. Where everybody knows your name.

  • The best kind of community is an entity in which an individual has a sense of belonging and connection through a common caring; like etsy; and as Suzula and Mollie Ann said..it is what Etsy Project Embrace, the team that Laura inspired, is all about.. This kind of community helps make this world more comforting and manageable.

  • Millie

A community is a bond. A bond between people, who share the same values and goals in life.

  • Viva

Love your definition. On a simpler level I think it’s a group of people with a common interest. Thanks!

  • is a group that share idea , emotion even with the different of variety emotion and coordinate together to take task in life

  • Community. That word means so much to me. I was an Outdoor Education major in college and I worked to bring the natural world to the community. To bring a community together for something everyone was passionate about. To me, community is a diversity of faces come together, and in those faces is a piece of yourself. We are all connected and when we recognize that connection and embrace it, we become a community.

  • 409cope

I would descibe community as a group of people living in the same area looking out for the good of one another.

  • Kathy

  • Communities is a way to feel that you belong somewhere. it can take many different shapes and can consist of just 2 people or thousands

  • Shana Anderson

Community is a group of people that come together with a common interest. A group of people you feel comfortable with

  • community is the people that surround you or share common interests :)

  • A community is a group of people who you interact with that help support you and shape who you are.

  • Mandy Schotter

Community is sharing, growing, loving, laughing, learning together.

  • I’d say, in the most basic sense of the word, a community is a group of people who care for each other and help promote a better quality of life.

  • I think a community is a group of people united by something they have in common, whether it’s a locality, an interest or hobby, a life experience or a passion! :)

  • The word community means to me a group that loves, supports, and tolerates each other plus cooperates together for a common cause.

  • community is a we-us-them kindof thing
    all of us together
    helping, interacting, living, breathing, sharing
revolving on this same lovely planet
each of us in our own interwoven orbits
    touching through minds, hearts, eyes
    taking the same breath together
    under the same sun
    and same sky

  • I am currently training to be a music therapist. I work with autistic and terminally ill chldren, road traffic accident victims, people suffering from strokes, MS and other life threatening patholgies – as well as, most recently, within the area of mental health. I have found that, sadly, so many people are isolated and alone; often at a time when they need others the most.

Therefore, for me, community is a way for people to experience themselves as healthy again – to be with others; to learn – to laugh – to love – and to live!

A community can be with friends, family, neighbours – or indeed strangers. A real community celebrates people; – as an individual as well as part of a collective – whoever and whatever their sex, age, colour, creed, illness or ability – thus enabling people to smile and be happy, cry and be sad, and to be who they truly are or need to be. To me – this is community.

  • Julie B

A community thinks and acts on behalf of the whole, rather than each individual acting on his own behalf. It has a joint purpose and reason for being, and will fall apart if the resolve to hold together fails.

  • Sherry Hylton

I love thinking of a community as another name for family. We strive to lift each other up and share our souls.

  • I think that what you posted was very reasonable. However, think about this, what if you were
to write a awesome post title? I mean, I don’t wish to tell you how to run your blog, but what
if you added a post title that makes people want more?
    I mean Creatively Tangled « greeneyed.com is a
little vanilla. You should glance at Yahoo’s home page and see how they create news headlines to grab
viewers interested. You might add a video or
a pic or two to get people excited about what you’ve written. In my opinion, it could make your posts a little bit more interesting.
