Home Ground

Ash is back in Massachusetts for the first winter in a few years, and she forgot how much beauty each season holds (even winter, her cold nemesis). There is something so pristine about the stillness on a cold winter night. The first dusting of snow is magical no matter what age you are. The natural world contains so much beauty and Brittany Broas seems able to capture nature’s splendor in her exquisite jewelry line, Home Ground. She uses natural materials such as stones and pearls to craft pieces that are understated but quietly stunning. Each piece of jewelry is slightly different and thus completely unique – just like nature.

ENVIABLE PERK: Home Ground uses natural and antique materials because she believes that they truly bring out, rather than overpower, the beauty of the wearer.

Find your home ground.

GIVEAWAY ALERT: Home Ground is giving away a pair of Merrivale II earrings. To enter, comment on this post and tell us what you think is the most beautiful part of winter in nature. Ash thinks that the stars seem brighter on cold, still nights. Kimmy loves when snow clings to the skinny, naked tree branches.

  • I absolutely agree with Ash! The dog and I head outside for a few minutes every night and I love watching the stars blink through the bare branches of the tree in our backyard. We don’t get snow where I am but I love the crispness in the air and the cold wind coming off the ocean on a winter afternoon.

  • I like to see snow FLAKES actually the shape of ones you cut out in elementary school falling
    xoxoxo

  • va

watching the snow from your window and the winter animals come out .
    tumblemumbo at gmail.com
    thanks

  • I love it when the sun hits the snow covered trees & when the snow sparkles like glitter in the sun :)

  • Carmilla

I love when it rains heavily and you are home and won’t need to go out in the all day

  • Katie

I love leaving for early-morning trips to the gym when there’s a fresh blanket of snow. Leaving those first footprints never fails to excite me :)

  • Anne Marie

I love the moonlight glistening upon freshly fallen snow – so beautiful.

  • Mimi

I love to compare the pristine blanket of snow in the front yard to the chaos of the backyard after the dogs have been playing in it.

  • Robyn Bardgett

I particularly love a bright blue sky set against an even brighter white landscape during winter. There’s something so refreshing, especially as I don’t see that often coming from warmer climes!

  • Megan

I love when icicles form on bare tree branches.

  • Paulina

I followed you here from Design Sponge and absolutely love it. You have a new follower!
What I love about winter is how serene the days and nights seem. The air and sky are crisp and the stars do shine brighter!

  • Elizabeth

I love when snow falls and it’s not windy, so it sits on every single branch on the trees. Thanks for this giveaway!

  • waking up to see a late sunrise through the frost patterns on my window. takes my breath away every time.

  • Julie B

I love when snow covers the ground, and then you see little footprints of creatures like deer or cats imprinted. I love that.

  • Jenny

I think the most beautiful part of winter is walking in a snow storm at night, the moonlight makes the flakes glow bright white and it feels like the stars are falling all around me. And the crunch of fresh snow under my boots, I love that sound

  • jess

watching tiny, beautiful songbirds industriously work to survive the cold. how they keep from blowing away in the harsh winter winds and snow is an amazement.

  • Marci J

I love the freshness of a white snowfall, so pure and clean.

  • Emily

There is something so beautiful about each season, but winter has a certain fairy like feel to it, especially when it is snowing and in the morning the fresh snows glistens.

  • I love the way everything looks when the snow has just fallen – when no one has left their homes yet, when it’s untouched & undisturbed. Just a smooth coat of snow covering everything. Lovely.

  • Sure, make me miss winter. :P

I love the blue of the world before the sun rises. When everything is covered in a new snow, and it’s just light enough outside to see by. I love the quiet and the pristine blue tint of the shadows. I would wake up early when I lived in Minnesota just for this moment.

  • Anna L

I love the way my hair looks as snow falls into it. It’s a joy of having curly hair!

  • Lauren

I love when there is an ice storm and all the branches sparkle because of the ice.

  • lola malone

I love the winter sky: such a beautiful grey/blue.

  • I live in Australia, and I don’t get snow here :S Winter looks much the same as summer, only with fewer storms. My favourite part would be the clothes I guess, I like being able to wear jeans and jackets :)

  • Hi Ash & Kimmy!

Thanks so much for the wonderful article. I couldn’t have said it better myself :)

I love the responses you’re getting, especially since I’m shooting the winter collection on Saturday and definitely need some snows inspiration.

    Good luck everyone!

  • I’m from the NW and after spending several years in Phoenix, I’m glad to be home. I missed watching the seasons change! Winter in Phoenix meant 70 degrees and sunny and I missed “real” winters – snow, frost on the windows and old man winter biting in the air. Winter is one of my favorite seasons!

  • Clarissa

the snow is the most beautiful aspect of winter. I like to look at the flakes coming down, knowing that no two flakes are alike, and once they cover the hills, I love to go skiing :)

  • Phyllis

Seeing “our” little house wrens all puffed up against the cold and wind. It’s such a joy that they come back every winter. How can you not want to make peanut butter and seed covered pinecones to put out for them?

  • Just beautiful! I looove the earrings but your pictures are fantastic. They don’t seem like product pics at all – more like art! :-)

  • Winter beauty is harsh…bold…almost working against our senses somehow. I love the purple sky 30 minutes after the sun goes down.

    I love the bare-naked trees.

And with as much hate as love- the feeling of taking a deep breath in cold cold air where it burns just a little bit in your lungs.

  • Ellen DeLuna

I love the silence that a snowfall leaves in it’s wake…

  • Thank you Sammi! That’s so nice of you.

  • I love when it’s a little hazy and lightly snowing.

  • Ruri

I love how the icy tree branches sparkle in the sun light!

  • Melissa

Right after it rains and then it gets cold really quick. All the ice freezes on the branches and it looks like we’re surrounded by crystal trees. Granted, I DON’T like driving in it, but I LOVE the way it looks=)

  • sadly, I live in a place where its summer always. I would love to be able to experience snow!
If this is international, I’d love to join in

    Thanks for the chance

  • Vanessa

Snow. We don’t see it often here, but when it does, it is just so beautiful and funny.

  • i love all the bare branches of the trees, there’s just something beautiful about it.

  • Stacey

I think the most beautiful part of winter is ironically the warmth it brings to people: families and friends getting together, sitting by the farm, and hot holiday drinks.

  • Emily R.

Just watch the snow fall from you’re window.

  • Misha

i love everything about trees in the winter. pine trees, naked trees. all so magical when they’re covered in snow and ice!

  • First of, I LOVE the first pic on this blog!

    Now, onto my entry. :)

I also love the snow clinging to the trees, but as to not copy that answer, I also love the color of the sky on a cold winter at dusk. It has a sort of ominous feel to it!

  • Cindy Bone

I love the squeaky-crunch of the snow under your boots when walking through the woods on a cold crisp morning…

  • Sophia

I love the sense of cleanness at the cold air.

  • Rachel W.

I love tree branches covered in ice. Thanks for the giveaway!

  • I love to see snow!! I don’t get to see much (since I live in Alabama) but it’s definitely what I look forward to seeing each winter.

  • Jennifer D.

I love how pure the first snowfall of the season is.

  • I dont have winter in Sri Lanka (at all) but I would say from photographs that the trees dusted with snow are very picturesque.

  • Amber G

I think freshly fallen snow is the most beautiful thing in winter!

  • Katie Walker

The first day of snow, when everything is fresh and beautiful. It looks so peaceful and perfect!

  • In my country, it’s all tropical, it is either really sunny, or it rains. (Singapore)

I’ve never ever seen snow in my life (as in, in real life, touching the snow. Not on TV.) But I’v seen pictures and videos and shows with snow. And I am utterly jealous.

I think the insanely beautiful part of winter is that you get to play with what’s ON THE GROUND. I see little children playing snowball fights, making little angels in the snow. I think the scene is infinitely beautiful and heartwarming, contrary to the exact weather ocnditions there.

it’s beautiful, winter. The snow and the people. (:

  • Bhav

I love the silhouette of the bare trees as the sun goes down in the evening. It always like a beautiful soft pastel painting.

  • I love how clean the air feels in the winter.
    Thanks for a great giveaway

The sunlight in the winter is beautiful!

  • mframe

I love when there is an ice storm and the ice sparkles in the sunlight.

  • Kasie

I love it when it snows and everything looks like it sparkles. I also really like it when flowers freeze over! It’s pretty.

  • I love the brightness of the world – the light reflects off of the snow, giving the air a light, beautiful shine.

  • I have never experienced snow since there’s no winter in our country, but for me I’d love to see the beauty of the first fall of snow. For me it would be a very pleasing sight to see, knowing that it is the start of yet another cycle of nature

  • Trees after and ice storm.

SNOW…I now live in a state that gets no snow so I miss that very much…just doesn’t seem like winter when it gets cold with no snow…

  • Maria

  • Rose

I love how the green on the bushes and trees is so much greener. ambrerose at(aol) dot(com)

  • Oksana

I love when sun is shining and snow is sparkling and crunching!!!

    ksyshenka(at)yahoo(dot)com

  • I love the ice on everything… as long as I don’t have to be out in it. Thanks for the chance!

  • Emily

I love the clean crispness of winter air. I especially appreciate it now that I’ve moved to a climate without a true winter – whenever I go home to visit family, I can’t get enough of the winter air, even though it feels even colder than when I used to live there!

  • Kacey Lyn

When the pond in my uncle’s backyard begins to freeze over, it’s like that last moment of fall is captured for the winter.

  • Melissa R.

While I had driving in them I think that the day after an ice storm is gorgeous all the trees sparkle like jewels and everything just looks so pretty and like a winter fairy land.

  • Heather

I love the naked tree branches too!

  • I think frost on trees, etc is the prettiest part of winter. :)

  • These earrings are stunning! I actually like to see what interesting ice formations develop as winter progresses (ie. icicles, frozen on trees, frozen on the surface of water, etc.).

  • brittany

i like that the nights are always clear and the air is crisp

  • Raven In A Blue Room

the most beautiful part is freshly fallen snow on the trees

the most beautiful part of winter in nature is the way it make people feel comfortable and cuddly.

  • I really love the fact that you can see your breath in the cold weather. There’s something strangely beautiful in that.

  • My favorite part of winter is looking at the rain from inside a warm house

  • MARCI J

I love the change of seasons – every season is new yet each a reminder of the last year. It’s a beautiful rhythm.

  • The most beautiful part of winter is getting the chance to see everything covered in ice every now and then. When that happens it is amazingly beautiful to me.

  • Sarah

I love the giveaway earrings. I want to give them to my sister as a thank you for always being there.

  • Sarah

Oh, and I love the way new snow sparkles like it’s been covered with a coat of glitter!
