Jamie Milk

The walls of our childhood home were covered in artwork. Not like one painting on each wall, we are talking 3 or 4 crammed on each wall, small paintings tucked into corners or above doorways, hallways lined with photographs. Our great-grandfather and our great aunt were both artists, so a lot of the paintings were family pieces. We are super psyched to be inheriting some of these heirloom paintings and we always have our eyes out for art to add to our collections. Thus, when we caught a glimpse of Jamie Milk‘s illustrations, we were hooked. The geometric shapes paired with elements from nature make our hearts go pitter patter, much the way they do when ascending a mountain or confronted by bear. Not that we’ve been confronted by bears, but you know, we image that the reaction might entail an elevated heart rate.

ENVIABLE PERK: All Jamie Milk artwork is printed on recycled paper.

We think our walls could make room for Jamie Milk’s illustrations, no problem.

GIVEAWAY ALERT: Jamie Milk is giving away a Mountains A3 print. To enter, comment on this post and tell us your favorite mountain(s). Ash remembers the sun rising behind Cotopaxi in Ecuador. (Kimmy happened to have hiked that very volcano, and almost passed out from altitude sickness – it is more of a hulking beast than a majestic beauty in her mind). Although Cotopaxi was the most breathtaking mountain view Ash has ever seen, her heart belongs to the Berkshire mountains, specifically Mt. Greylock. Kimmy has always loved the shape of the Matterhorn in Switzerland.

Being from Vancouver, mountains are very dear to my heart. I miss looking out and constantly seeing Grouse Mountain.

  • Most memorable for me were the Pyrenees, when I was on my honeymoon in Spain.

  • Oh! I love this giveaway-so great! My favorite mountains are The Tetons. Amazing-I will never forget looking at them in the mirror as we drove away.

  • Jules

To steal a tiny bit from Ash, I also am in love with the mountains in the Berkshires from going to camp there. One of my personal faves is Mt. Hope – it was one of the first ones I hiked and it will always be special. I also just love driving through those mountains in the winter time and looking at the blue ice form on the sides of the road. Takes my breath away…

  • I grew up in the midwest (no mountains), and have always lives somewhere without view of them, they always seem like magical things to me.

I like Cadillac Mountain – it’s the highest point on the Eastern Seaboard!

  • Nic

I am partial the White Mountains in New Hampshire– I love hiking in Franconia Notch.

  • Laura

I am torn between the two mountain ranges I’m blessed to live between. The Adirondacks to my west and the Green Mountains to my east. There are hilltops one can drive along and see both on either side. No matter the season their beauty defies mere words.

  • I am in love with the fourteeners in Colorado (part of the Rocky Mtns). My favorite of those 54 14,000ft or higher mountains is probably Pike’s Peak. Not only do I love the flat top it’s got going on, it also inspired the lyricist of America the Beautiful.

The Sleeping Giant, on the banks of the Superior (or Lake Michigan? one of them anyway) — the first mountain I ever climbed at 9 years old.

Mt. Rainier will always have a special place in my heart. I spent the past summer working at a day lodge and hiking in my off time. In the morning I’d look out my window and see the beast basking in the orange glow of morning. Now I’m getting all sentimental! :)

  • I remember taking a train through the Swiss mountains (not sure what range or anything) from Paris to Rome. I remember feeling so small compared to the looming giants around the train. There were so many adorable little villages nestled all through. I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a girl just like me living out there somewhere, behind one of those tiny painted doors or bright windows.

    cascades in oregon.

I live among some of the oldest mountains on the planet, the Appalachian mountains. My heart is at home here more so than anywhere else in the world, and I am never jaded by the beauty that I am so fortunate to be surrounded with.

Thank you for the opportunity to win this print. I think that Jamie Milk’s art is phenomenal.

We got to see the sun set and rise in the Canyon. Definitely felt like hiking a mountain backwards but one of the coolest things I’ve ever done!
