Henri Lou

Maybe it’s spring or maybe it’s Ash hitting her stride in the second trimester of her pregnancy, but we have been feeling empowered lately. When we came across the gorgeous jewelry at Henri Lou, where the backbone to their creative process is creating powerful yet feminine pieces, we were hooked. The use of leather, saddle rings, gold filled chain, and real plated leaves create edgy yet womanly pieces. There is a western and perhaps equestrian feel to the leather and ring bracelets that has us wishing we rode horses and lived in Arizona. We enjoy the bold pieces that would inspire us to be bold ourselves. Every piece, bold or delicate, looks as though it might transform the wearer. And isn’t that what jewelry is all about? Also, in addition to jewelry, Henri Lou has some fabulous leather bags!

ENVIABLE PERK: All Henri Lou jewelry is hand made, hand knotted, and hand braided.

Powerful yet feminine.

GIVEAWAY ALERT: Henri Lous is giving away a ring or bracelet of your choice. To enter, comment on this post and tell us something you’ve done recently that made you feel powerful. Ash rearranged her entire bedroom, including the addition of a king sized bed! Kimmy has been logging some serious hours working on her tugboat the past few weeks.

I ran a 5k on the Sunday before my birthday. Ever since the new year, I’ve decided to finally take my health seriously and being active was a part of that. I’m far from a runner, but being able to cross the finish line (which happened to be the Boston Marathon finish line) reminded me that I can take on anything and succeed.

A year and a half ago I was 171 lbs at 5’4″. Today, not only am I 30 lbs lighter, I can run 4 miles in 42 minutes! Two year ago I wouldn’t have believed it was possible, but with a little discipline and a lot of determination, I have came a long way and have no intention of stopping my new healthy habits……ever!

  • What a perfect question for me today! Earlier this week, the company I worked for decided to switch to a new insurance. During the introduction meeting, I spoke up and questioned why we weren’t offering domestic partnership benefits. We never had before and when I asked last year, I wasn’t given the best answers.

This year, after questioning the new insurance provider, I was told within 24 hours they had decided to include it in the policy. I am ecstatic and I feel like my voice actually made a difference. I seriously do feel empowered more than I ever have. :D

Today at lunch, my Ash and I are going down to the county clerk’s office and getting our domestic partnership on file. I am so excited. <3

I led a meeting for my boss with executive directors from various cultural organizations in the area. It was very empowering to be given such a responsibilty.

  • Hmmm, what makes me feel powerful? Well, my boyfriend just deployed for the first time since our living together, so I’m here in his (our!) apartment alone for the first time, in a new city, fending for myself & not knowing a soul in town. It’s weird, to be totally & completely alone, but I’m managing, looking for ways to meet people & stay happy & positive. If that’s not empowering, I don’t know what is!

  • I went to the Central Appraisal District and protested my property taxes. It had tripled in just one year….Thanks for this great giveaway

This past Sunday, I helped a friend move from Athens, GA to Duluth (a 45 minute trip). We both managed to keep ourselves positive and excited each of the three times the uHaul wouldn’t start (3 times, each repair was an hour and some time of a wait.) So what was supposed to initially take 5 hours, ended up being 9 hours, with four hours of waiting time.

We moved her things, got it done, and she couldn’t be happier.

  • What I’m proud of recently is that I’ve really devoted myself to healing from a painful part of my past. I was sexually abused as a child, and for years I’ve tried to bury the pain, anxiety, and bewilderment that resulted from it. Now I feel like, for the first time ever, I am really facing it and actively trying to heal.

  • I went to a concert all by myself and had a great time!

  • I took on some extra jobs at work that would normally not be my job duty. I took them on due to our office being so short staffed. I won’t get anything extra for it but it makes me feel important, needed and helpful – AKA powerful.

A book I stumbled across, “The Disorganized Mind”
    by Nancy A. Ratty, Ed.M, M.C.C., S.C.A.C,
Is what has enabled and made me feel powerful.
Learning to self-coach, develop strategies, create
    self-awareness and most importantly acceptance
of the fact that I am not my A.D.D has allowed
me to manage and overcome something that has
effected, challenged and hindered me my entire life.
I am now the capable, empowered and happy
person I have always struggled to be.
