Month 9

UPDATE: Courtland Whaley Cart (otherwise known as The Sesame Seed) was born at 11:56pm on August 10, 2011, weighing 8lbs, 1oz and measuring 19in long. Both mom and baby are doing wonderfully. We can’t wait to share pictures!

If you’re reading this, it means that Ash is in labor.

Ouch.

Here’s wishing her strength and courage during these tough tough hours. All that work and pain is worth it in the end! We look forward to sharing photos of a healthy and happy mama and baby in the coming days!

This means that after 9 months of documentation, the be present Maternity series has reached its climax! It was a hot and humid final month, and I am more grateful than ever that my home is equipped with central air. My ankles, in particular, are sharing their gratitude. Appropriately, the last be present outfit included my favorite be present Organic French Terry bottoms in short-format. The flexible material posed no discomfort for that 9 month belly, and the shorts were especially appreciated when the temperatures reached the triple digits.

The tank I’m wearing is not only appropriate in style and shape for these hot, summer days, but the ‘be present’ name and message on the front of the shirt feels apt for the experience I am currently undertaking. I hope that I remember to be present in the moment as I work to bring my daughter into the world, and despite the pain, really breathe into this journey and hold on to those first moments when I hold her in my arms and welcome her to life on the outside.

I’m almost there. She’s almost here.

You can jump on over to Ash’s personal blog, Blog a la Cart, for more pictures and for her letter to herself in preparation for labor. In the coming weeks, we’ll compile a stop motion video of the series so you can see the progression of these 9 months together. As always, so many thanks to be present and Kate Drew Miller for undertaking this project with Ash.

Month 8

As of today, Ash is officially full-term (as in 36 weeks pregnant) which means that she is in the window to deliver one healthy baby girl. YAY! On the flip side, that means that we are nearing the end of the maternity photography series (with many thanks to Kate Drew Miller Photography) and our partnership with be present. Sigh. This has been such a fun project and we have loved sharing all of be present’s comfortable, beautifully designed clothes crafted from eco-friendly fabrics with you. It will be very cool to piece the whole project together into a time lapse video. A belly will grow before your eyes in mere seconds!

This month I rocked the Racerback Hemp Tank that’s made from 100% Hemp Slub – a lightweight, semi-sheer, textured and eco-friendly fabric. On a non-pregnant lass, it promises to be much looser, but the back will be just as cool. Promise. Underneath I wore the Dancer Cami. I love that it has a built in bra. So comfortable. So easy. I know that it will be put to much use in post-partum life. Also, the fabric is crazy soft and made from beech wood extraction on farms that practice sustainability. Excellent! No wonder I found myself glowing this month!

be present: Month 7

Ash is in the final stretch. 8 weeks and counting until the arrival of The Sesame Seed. Of course, that’s assuming that she comes on schedule, but infants can be rather fickle creatures, so we’re not counting on it.

As expected, the final trimester has heralded in a growing state of discomfort. The rising summer temperatures and humidity certainly add to this unfortunate state of physical-affairs. The babe grows by the day, her movement more pronounced, and my visits to the bathroom are more frequent than ever. Ah the joys! Fortunately, I have one incredible husband who rubs my feet daily and retrieves many a bowl of ice cream as requested. Being physically active is more of a challenge, but on days where I’m feeling good, I get outside, walk, run the dogs, push Sunny in her swing, or, most enjoyably, cool off and feel weightless in a pool. Sunny’s love of the water makes swimming a particular joy. I hope to do much much more as it feels marvelous to swim no matter how much pressure this growing watermelon puts on my body.

And, as always, I am grateful for the comfortable, accommodating and, best of all, weather appropriate clothing I’m rocking from be present. This Easy Cami is just that, easy. Cool. Stylish. And with generous space around the mid-section for the belly. It’ll get me through the summer months, both pre- and post- partum. Also, the Ribbed Racerback Bra is not only the perfect under layer for the cami, but an incredibly comfortable piece of intimate apparel that I can wear now and while breastfeeding to support a particularly tender area (Y’all catch my drift. And nursing/pregnant Mamas out there, you know exactly what I am talking about). This cami/bra pairing is now the go-to uniform for my daily pre-natal yoga practice. I’ve had to seriously modify the poses, but I know that all of this stretching and breathing will benefit me immensely during labor and delivery.

This cami makes it easy for Ash to smile!

be present: Month 6

Where oh where is the time going? It’s May, Ash’s belly is bigger than ever, and she’s on the brink of the 3rd and FINAL trimester of pregnancy. Eep!

The good news is that it’s time for more luxuriously comfortable and stylish clothing from be present, and if a pregnant woman can say that, you know it’s gotta be true! This month I got to test drive the new Renew Dolman Sleeve Tunic. Let’s just say that the extra fabric ’round the middle paired with the fitted waistband that hugs comfortably on my hips makes for a very accommodating top indeed. Especially with a 6 month pregnant belly tucked inside. Even cooler, the shirt is made from 50% RPET / 50% Organic Cotton. As I’ve mentioned previously, rPET is a fabric developed from recycled plastic bottles and blending rPET with Organic Cotton results in a soft, comfortable knit fabric. Amen! Also, how sweet of this shirt to compliment my eyes. You’d think I had epic baby blues thanks to this shade of Island Blue.

And, not surprisingly, these pants have yet to leave my person since they were put on for the photo shoot. If there is any doubt in your mind, the French Terry Resort Pant is a much-needed addition to your wardrobe. Is it the comfort? The stretch? The styling? The organic terry material? It’s all of the above and all swoon-worthy! Honestly, both this pair of pants and the French Terry Lounge Pant from Month 4 are staples of my wardrobe. And will remain so through maternity and post-partum life. Items that versatile and comfortable should not pass you by.

To increase your chances of winning, you can submit multiple entries to this giveaway! For one entry, comment on this post and tell us what makes you jump for joy. Ash is jumping for joy because the Sesame Seed is healthy and the temperatures are warming. Kimmy is jumping for joy now that it’s boating season on the Cape and she can put her mini tug boat in the water. be present: Month 5

Ash is securely in Month 5 of her pregnancy, which means yet another fabulous giveaway and photo shoot courtesy of be present and Kate Drew Miller Photography!

I’ve been feeling surprisingly great this month which is a welcome change from the nausea of the 1st trimester and the month long sinus infection that kicked off Month 4. Maybe that’s why I was sillier than usual in this month’s photo shoot. To see all the images for the full spread of silly, go here. I cannot say enough great things about the Long-Sleeve Hemp Cross Back Tee I’m rocking below. It has the necessary balance of belly coverage and comfort paired with some surprising design and, dare I say, sexiness. I mean, just check out those booty shots. Of course, you don’t have to wear it with just a sports bra underneath if you don’t want that bit of back exposure, but I thought it was cool to highlight something unexpected with the neat criss-cross design of the back. And when I wore the shirt to my Zumba class, I received quite the flurry of compliments and attention. As I’ve found with the whole be present line, their clothing is a perfect combination of comfortable, practical, stylish exercise apparel and lounge wear. And their sustainable use of materials is just the icing on the cake. This shirt, for example, is made from 100% Hemp Slub – a lightweight, semi-sheer, textured and eco-friendly fabric. Two enthusiastic GREEN thumbs up!

Getting silly with it!

GIVEAWAY ALERT: be present is giving away the super stylish Long-Sleeve Hemp Cross Back Tee ($59 value) that Ash is wearing in the photos above. To increase your chances of winning, you can submit multiple entries to this giveaway! For one entry, comment on this post and tell us what you do to find the silly or the joy. Ash is a huge proponent of impromptu dance parties, whether in her living room or the middle of her office. Who doesn’t love an excuse to get down with the get down? Kimmy is a master mimic, and can lighten hers or anyone’s mood with silly impersonations. For another entry, head on over to Facebook and ‘like’ be present.
